Sounds like the oxygen sensor(s) got wet (on the vehicles I've had they are located on the exhaust manifold). Though one would assume they would be "sealed" they are in fact open to the elements as they have to sample the outside or ambient air's oxygen levels. Mud or dirt may have caused the very fine mesh around it to be clogged when it mixed with water. Since they are made of ceramic--like a big spark plug--it is possible it cracked when it was sprayed and may need to be replaced. AutoZone auto parts in this part of the country will run a free on-vehicle diagnostics on it for you with the hope that you will buy a new part from them. Worth a shot!

YOOPERPETE: I have heard of similar instances. I believe it was something related to the reduced level of vacuum in the fuel system's vapor recovery and subsequent emissions control by the computer (too much vacuum draw and the computer saw that as a bad thing). Conversely, on my former '99 Dodge Ram diesel if the fuel cap was too tight (or when the internal vent in the cap was not working or cloggled) it would cause such a vacuum in the tank that the electric lift/transfer pump couldn't overcome it and would starve for fuel.
